Ok, so i think the snow turned out okay(imo). at first i was hesitant to try create some sort of "tracks" for the vehicle but ended up just using a standard box with 30 divisions X/Y then extruding the length of track along the caterpillar drives and then manually tweaking the mesh and using a turbo smooth (new 3dsmax7 modifier ). The texture is some snow texture i found, with a smoke bump map to create a kinda dirty look in the areas where the holes for the two drives went through.
Overall im pretty happy to be able to make a "scene" for this vehicle because i initially wanted to use just the model for the final version.
I couldnt quite get the "bits of snow in the teeth" or piled up in the front of the shovel, but oh well
Some stats:
Render time: 9mins45sec (Mental ray, no GI, no Caustics, no FG)
Scene Polygons: 47k (snow ground 22k)
Photoshop touchup gaussian blur layer (im addicted to using gaussian blur layers to enrich colours, plus i thought the whole snow scene thing could use abit of a softness to it)
On a side note, ive never seen real snow before u_u!
And thanks to for the idea of adding teeth to the caterpillar wheels.
enjoy~
EDIT: Ok, so i went abit overboard with the glow. i turned it down a notch and did some level adjustments. so the vehicle isnt so dark in contrast
EDIT2: Lol that was easy. i just went into acdsee (well i wanted to make it just monochrome) but i accidentally used auto colour and it seemed to make it alot more snow-like so heres the update
I have a new wallpaper. Sweet gods, man. If you don't already have one, get a job with a game design studio (hopefully petroglyph). They need you. Wow...
