Quite happy with the way this turned out
worked a fair bit on the texturing, the turret model uses 4 x 4000x4000 texture maps (diffuse, bump, specular, self illumination), the three monitors use one 800x800 diffuse map (same map used for self illumination and opacity). background uses 4 x 4000x4000 texture maps (diffuse, bump, specular, self illumination). Thanks to for the red HDRI map and for tips on the scene. I would also like to thank all those who gave feedback during the progress. Render time at this res is about 22mins with no raytrace antialiaser or supersampling and 27 rays/sample. I will do one later, if people want, at 1600x1200 with AA + SS (but that would take somewhere around 4-12hours im assuming).
I have volumetric lighting through the door, which has a slight fractal noise, though its abit hard to see (easier to see on the clay render). I also have a glow effect on the red lines across the floor and the screens.
Modelled in 3d studio max R8,
rendered with Default Scanline Renderer with Advanced Lighting (Light Tracer)
no raytrace antialiasing or supersampling
494 objects, 118752 polygons 48 lights (1 skylight + omnis and spotlights)
slight post processing (blur + dodge) to increase the contrast slightly
as you can see i used my integrity cell render as one of the mini schematics for the screen, i thought it looked pretty cool. most of the "grainyness" is from the bump maps and not the low rays/sample so even if/when i render with AA/SS you will see that most of it is still there :s
OMG that is so cool! So detailed!! And the textures are awesome! Great job dude!

You know that I love your stuff. Your my master when it comes down to detailing and mechanical pieces.
But still, what I personally think is that the compositional aspect could be improved...I feel lost when I look at the image, there is no focal point that the eye is drawn to. Or there are too many.
heh...who cares anyway...this is amazing, simply an outstanding work again. The materials and textures are great, too, you are getting better and better here. Keep at it, I'm already looking forward to your next work
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
