I just realised Maxxon has a plugin for 3dsmax which allows direct painting onto models.
Does anyone know much about this? does it support all the features such as layering, brushes etc available with photoshop.
Or if anyone else knows of or has tried a similar plugin, I would be interested to hear about it.

Bodypaint? it came built in with my C4D. I find it vary usefull, being able to draw/paint right on an object... but Iv never been one for drawing.... so I kinda suck with it XD.

That sounds like an interesting plug in. I've never heard of it before.

As far as I know, 4d cinema is the only application that can run body paint. But if 3d max has a version it would be on the maxon website, that's the best place to start. Try searching maxon on google.

I played around with it a bit, you can paint on the model, flatten a bit map on the model from any angle and probably other stuff.

I have no idea how to UMW unwrap .. or whatever its called.. so ive found a free plugin that allows you to pick your object, make a 2d pic with all the faces and you can just paint on top of them in Photoshop and then just set the whole image as a material for the model!

thats how i did texturing for this: [link]

i've worked with body paint before (but in cinema4d). i really like it. :)
it is indeed quite close to photoshop with layers and brushes, it reads psd-files and supports all photoshop plugins.
on maxxon.net you'll find more informations and a demo-version i think.
