I am using the default scanline renderer with a skylight projecting a HDRI and I notice that my bump map doesnt seem to be very prominent. By default i had it on 15, so i tried a value of 150 and re-rendered and it seems identical. Has anyone noticed bump maps are not working properly with light tracer? or is there something you need to do to enable it?

Found out i had to use Advanced Lighting Override material and set the indirect light bump scale

Hmm, I've never had that problem before. Well I never used HDRI when I used to do scanline anyway.

I know in Cinema 4D You have to have a bit of a reflection. Otherwise, the bump seems like it's not even there if there at all.

Even at 1%, you can't see reflections, but somehow the bump manages to show up.

Maybe an idea.

i've never used the scanline renderer before, so i don't really know a lot about it. but i read this, and then played with a few settings. i didn't have an HDRI file loaded into my skylight but found that, like you, the bump maps don't appear to work. i tried this with a Standard material, and a Raytrace - both to the same affect.

on both materials i also threw the bump map i was using into the Displacement slot, which normally has some pretty wacky results, and nothing happened.

i also tried as RosaKiddy suggested, and put a directional light into my scene, with shadows turned on - this also didn't make the bump map visible.

i can safely say that i have no idea what's wrong :) but hopefully i've helped narrow down the options a bit. good luck with it!

I really dont know.. but, do you have a directional light in your scene? if you dont, try to put one, and activate the shadow option.
